Serral Qualifies for WCS Montreal

Another WCS Qualifier meant another chance at a DreamHack WCS event for Serral and wouldn’t you know, he done it again. Having qualified for all four WCS events this year including Austin, Jönköping and recently Valencia the young Zerg has been showing dominant form. During the qualifiers he managed to win the EU Challenger twice and also managed to place highly in some of the main events.

With another chance at a WCS win as he heads to Montreal, Serral is on the verge of also confirming his spot at the grand-finals that will take place later this year at Blizzcon. Only eight players will make it from the WCS circuit points (of course winning a WCS event provides you with a direct invite to the main event) and Serral currently sits comfortably in third with Montreal still to play.

Like previous WCS events it will be as part of the DreamHack event and will boast a prize pool of $100,000 with first place taking 25% of that alongside 3,000 circuit points. Serral has been close to clinching his first major title after he finished second at WCS Jönköping to North Americas Neeb and finishing in Quarter-Finals for the other events.

As a qualifier once again Serral will have the advantage of starting the tournament in the Group Stage 3 where he will be joined by other qualifiers and those that make it through the first two group stages of play. It will not be an easy tournament for Serral but he will be coming out fighting to claim his first victory as well as helping officially secure that all important spot at Blizzcon World Finals.

Below you can read some statements from Serral and X about his qualifier and up coming tournament.

I had a bad first day in the qualifier, almost lost to Guru and then dropped to losers bracket after a loss against ShoWTimE. Just barely managed to keep myself in the qualifier winning DnS and uThermal 2-1. I was super happy I managed to beat Snute 3-1 the next day and qualify for Montreal as that was the most important thing. I didn’t win the qualifier this time, but I’m not too worried about that. I will practice my hardest to do well at the tournament itself.

Serral has had a stellar performance through the year and earned qualification to WCS Global Finals already with the points. Only a win from the international event is missing from this year, on our side, we want to make it possible and provide best possible support for our star player.

The tournament will begin on the 8th September and run through to the 10th and you will be able to catch all the action live right here on We hope you cheer on Serral as he once again heads to a WCS event in the hopes of taking that first place spot.
