ENCE plans to expand in to Overwatch early 2017

Post 5.12.2016

As our CEO Petri “Procyon” Hämälä stated in his year in review-article, our possible addition for the upcoming year is Overwatch. However, to do so we need to find a team that fits our values.

We have been keeping our eyes open on the Finnish teams and have received a lot of applications from individual players and teams everywhere around the world. So far, we haven’t found a complete lineup that we believe to be optimal in growth and representing our organization.

We have acquired Samuli “elfi” Sihvonen, one of Finland’s most successful Starcraft 2 players, to build and coach the team. Since his retirement, he has started to take professional coaching degree classes (Further Qualification in Coaching) in The Sport Institute of Finland. He is graduating early 2017, so this project has great possibilities for him to apply techniques he has learnt in a real environment.

“In my eyes, it’s very important that the players in the team have the will to improve not only as players but as persons. Being professional is a very important quality that shouldn’t be taken for granted. Having observed Finnish esports for a long time, I’ve noticed it to be a common trend that players often don’t have the mentality to push 110%, but instead try to take shortcuts. Work ethic and the quality of practice will be the key ingredients to make it to the top. Of course, you need to be realistic, take care of other parts of life aswell because those are very important to be successful. I want to teach the players to have proper self-criticism, so that they can look at themselves on the mirror at the end of each month and feel they’ve done the best they can.” – Samuli “elfi” Sihvonen

Samuli is an ex professional gamer in Starcraft2 gone professional coach, now to bring success for ENCE in Overwatch

We will be overlooking that the team has the tools, support network and surroundings where players and the whole team can improve in a professional manner. We will be including different bootcamps in to the routines of the team.

“The road we’re choosing is all about the long term, not a shortcut to the top. I feel it is the best option when our goal is to be a successful team in the long haul. Choosing the right players will be very important, but I believe that appropriate practice conditions and routines will have as big of an effect aswell.” – Petri “Procyon” Hämälä
